The Department of Health (DOH) – Ilocos Region posted a 54% accomplishment rate or 226,075 vaccinated out of the 416,762 target children for the on-going Measles Rubella - Oral Polio Vaccine Supplemental Immunization Activity or the “Chikiting Ligtas 2023” since the start of the campaign on May 1, 2023, based on the unofficial quick count of the regional office.
Regional Director Paula Paz M. Sydiongco extended appreciation to all local government units for their continuing effort to seek out every eligible child in the communities. “We still have two more weeks to meet or even exceed our target and let us do our best to immunize all 0-59 months old.”
“Siguraduhin po natin na lahat ay mabibigyan ng proteksiyon at walang maiiwanan upang ang ating mga bata ay lumaking ligtas at malusog sa anumang sakit,” Sydiongo added.
According to the latest MR-OPV SIA Bulletin No.4. the province of Ilocos Sur has provided measles vaccine to a total of 80.12% or 37,118 children out of the 46,330 target children; Ilocos Norte has 55.71% or 22,602 out of the 40,573; Pangasinan with 50.66% or 129,992 out of the 256,615; and La Union – 48.20% or 6,878 out of the 14,269 target.
For the oral polio vaccine, the province of Ilocos Sur accomplished 66.08% of its target or 6.096 out of the 9,225 eligible children; Pangasinan with 53.50% or 66,403 out of 124,110; Ilocos Norte has 53.12% or 7,005 out of 13,186; La Union – 53.04% or 14,496 out of 27,328; and Dagupan City with 47.04% or 7,941 out of 16,754 target.
Four municipalities in Ilocos Sur, namely Magsingal (113.01%), Santo Domingo (110,75%), Sa Ildefonso (96.52%) and Santa (95.23%), have already exceeded the 95% MR target set by the DOH to provide protection from vaccine-preventable diseases including measles, rubella, and polio to children 0-59 months old and avert any possible outbreak of measles cases in the country.
Sydiongco called on all parents and guardians of children 0-59 months old to bring them to vaccination centers for vaccination.
“Patuloy din po ang house-to-house na bakuna para sa mga hindi makakapunta sa mga health center natin. Tangkilikin po natin ang mga bakunang binibigay ng ating gobyerno dahil ito po ay libre, ligtas at siguradong epektibong panlaban sa sakit,” she assured.

The Department of Health (DOH) – Ilocos region in partnership with the city government of Dagupan yesterday held a grand launching campaign for the Measles Rubella and bivalent Oral Polio virus Vaccine Supplementary Immunization Activities (MR-bOPV SIA) yesterday, May 9, 2023 at the CSI Stadia in Brgy. Lucao, Dagupan City.
“Sisiguraduhin po natin na lahat ng batang 59 months below ay aming hahanapin at bibigyan ng bakuna upang lahat ng batang Dagupeño ay walang maiiwanan at lahat mapoproteksyonan laban sa sakit na tigdas at polio,” Mayor Belen T. Fernandez vowed in her message during the activity which was attended by parents and guardians of 324 children who availed of the free vaccines.
“The MR-OPV SIA actualizes our focus on good government, that is to bring government closer to the people, and bring health care services and children protection to every Dagupeño family right at their doorstep!”
Mayor Fernandez also directed the city health department to conduct weekend vaccination activities and promised to join the barangay and house-to-house campaign to encourage more parents to vaccinate their children.
According to May 10, 2023, regional MR-OPV SIA accomplishment report, Dagupan City has already recorded a total of 4,104 (25%) out of the 16,162 children vaccinated with measles-rubella and 4,797 (25%) out of the 18,915 children were given oral polio vaccine.
Guest of Honor and Undersecretary of Health for Field Implementation and Coordination Team (FICT) North & Central Luzon Eric A. Tayag said that the Chikiting Ligtas 2023 aims to immunize children who are missed out during the routine immunization between 2019 and 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Kailangan natin ang tulong ng bawat isa, kabilang ang ating mga local na pamahalaan na siyang mangunguna sa pagbabakuna ng mga bata at magbabahay-bahay sa mga komunidad upang masiguro na ang bawat ay mabigyan ng vaccines at nagpapasalamat kami sa napakalaking suporta ng Dagupan City sa kampanyang ito,” Tayag emphasized.
Regional Director Paula Paz M. Sydiongco recognized the city government of Dagupan for supporting the DOH’s program and projects. “Nagpapasalamat din po ako sa mga magulang at guardians na dumalo at nagdala ng kanilang anak upang mabigyan ng bakuna. Ito ay pagpapahiwatig ng taos pusong pagmamahal upang sila ay hindi magkasakit at mabigyan ng proteksyon laban sa sakit na ruvella, measles at polio.”
“Kailangan nating isulong ang MR-OPV SIA vaccination upang maiwasan ang pagkakaroon ng isa pang epidemya,” Sydiongco concluded.

MR-OPV SIA LAUNCHING IN BALUNGAO, PANGASINAN

Launching of Measles Rubella and bivalent Oral Poliovirus Vaccine Supplementary Immunization Activities (MR-bOPV SIA) 2023 in Brgy, Esmeralda, Balungao, Pangasinan with 108 children vaccinated with the measles, rubella and oral polio vaccine.
The event was participated by Vice Mayor Philipp Peralta and DOH-Ilocos Region Family Health Cluster Head Dr. Justin Clyde Gubatan who encouraged parents and guardians of 0-59 months old children to avail of the free vaccine.

MR-OPV SIA LAUNCHING IN BURGOS, PANGASINAN

The Local Government of Burgos, Pangasinan launched the Measles Rubella and bivalent Oral Poliovirus Vaccine Supplementary Immunization Activities (MR-bOPV SIA) 2023 in Brgy. Don Matias on May 5, 2023 with 150 children vaccinated during the event.
DOH Asec. Mylene Beltran led the immunization activity together with Mayor Allan Valenzuela, Pangasinan Assistant PHTL Dr. George Calugay, Regional Family Health Cluster Head Dr. Justun Clyde Gubatan and DMO for Eastern Pangasinan Mr. David Aguiles.
Asec Beltran also visited the Covid-19 vaccination activity in Alaminos City and the rural health unit of Sual also in Pangasinan.
